Exclusive Services
Word Well Edits offers professional human editing for independent and first-time authors, with options ranging from a single editorial pass to our complete package. Your final quote is calculated using the exact word count of your manuscript.
Not sure which service you need? That's okay. Tell us about your manuscript, and we'll help you figure out where to start.
For projects with unusual requirements or circumstances, we'll discuss the scope with you before work begins.
CHOOSE THE EDITING SUPPORT YOUR MANUSCRIPT NEEDS
1
DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING
Developmental editing looks at the manuscript as a whole. Rather than focusing primarily on grammar and punctuation, your editor examines the elements that make the book work, including structure, pacing, clarity, organization, flow, consistency, and the overall reading experience. Developmental editing is generally the best place to begin when a manuscript still feels like it needs substantial work before its final polish.

2
COPYEDITING
Copyediting focuses on the words on the page. Your editor reviews the manuscript for issues such as grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence clarity, and style consistency. The goal is to make the manuscript clean, consistent, readable, and professional while preserving the author's individual voice.

PROOFREADING
Proofreading is the final quality-control pass. It's designed for manuscripts that have already gone through the editing process and need one last careful review before publication. Proofreading is not a substitute for developmental editing or copyediting. If your manuscript hasn't received professional editing yet, we'll help you determine whether proofreading is actually the right place to start.

THE COMPLETE EDITING PACKAGE
Two rounds. One package. One price.
If your manuscript needs both structural attention and line-level polish, you don't have to purchase the two services separately. Our complete editing package includes:
Round One: Developmental Editing. Your editor works through the manuscript with the larger picture in mind, addressing structure, pacing, clarity, organization, flow, consistency, and other developmental concerns. You then have the opportunity to revise the manuscript based on that feedback.
Round Two: Copyediting. Once you've completed your developmental revisions, the manuscript receives a second editorial pass focused on grammar, punctuation, consistency, clarity, style, and other copyediting concerns.

Want to see what working with us looks like first? Get a sample edit!
You don't have to hand over your entire manuscript without knowing what to expect.
For $50, we'll complete a sample edit of your manuscript so you can see our editorial approach and get a better sense of the kind of work your book may need.
A sample edit can also help you determine whether our editing style feels like the right fit for you and your manuscript.

Need a reader before you need an editor?
Beta reading is designed for authors who want informed reader feedback on a completed manuscript before moving into the professional editing stage.
A beta reader approaches your manuscript from the perspective of a reader rather than an editor, providing feedback about the overall reading experience.
Beta reading is not developmental editing, copyediting, or proofreading. It's reader feedback.

YOUR BOOK. YOUR VOICE. OUR EXPERTISE.
Professional editing should make your book stronger without making it sound like someone else's book. That's why we work with independent authors across genres and approach every manuscript as its own project.
You wrote the book. We're just here to help you make it the best version of itself.
